The 12 Best Fashion Moments by Bollywood Celebrities on The Cannes Red Carpet

Cannes Film Festival is one of the most prestigious film festivals held globally. The most exceptional talent from cinema becomes a part of the festival. Though the festival is known for having together the best of world cinema, it is also equally popular for the lavish red carpet appearances. Indian actors have represented India since many years, now more than ever with almost all the leading female actors from India, making it to the best dressed list on all the international fashion magazines for their fashion choices. Here is a list of looks which we think were the best looks by Indian celebrities on the Cannes Red Carpet ever (in no particular order):

1. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in Michael Cinco (2017):

Probably one of the most iconic red carpet moments to be ever seen in the Cannes history has to be this powder blue Michael Cinco princess cut gown Aishwarya wore to the red carpet and made every head turn. Disney Princess magic done right.

2. Sonam Kapoor in Ralph and Russo: Sonam Kapoor has led the way for Indian fashion since a decade and she proves it time and again. But one of her favorite looks for me has to be this Ralph and Russo Couture white gown which the internet found to resemble with a rumali roti. Well, the choice is high fashion couture and due respect given. A vision in white!

3. Hina Khan in Ziad Nakad (2019): It is indeed not easy to be a television actor and gain respect in India. Hina Khan changed the scenario with her first red carpet appearance at the Cannes Film Festival ever. This moment will always be special, partly because of that stunning outfit. Represent!

4. Priyanka Chopra Jonas in Georges Hobeika (2019): Priyanka Chopra Jonas made a classy debut on the Cannes Red Carpet. Though her first look got some mixed responses, her second appearance with Nick Jonas in the striking white Georges Hobeika gown was no less than a wedding day recreated right there.

5. Vidya Balan in Sabyasachi (2013): Vidya Balan was a part of the jury at Cannes in the year 2013 and all her looks were designed and styled by Sabyasachi. Though I loved all her looks, the ones that really made a mark were the gold saree completed with a nathani and the red saree completed with pearls. Chic, elegant and Indian.

6. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in Roberto Cavalli (2014): The pose tells it all. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan had some disappointing outings in the few previous years. But as everyone was expecting another safe choice by the actress, she stunned in a Roberto Cavalli gold number which still sets my hearts racing.

7. Deepika Padukone in Ashi Studio (2018): Deepika Padukone attended Cannes for the second year in a row in 2018. While she played it safe with the stunning white Zuhair Murad gown for her first red carpet appearance that year, she served one of the most iconic fashion moments wearing the pink butterfly-ish Ashi Studio gown. We love extra!

8. Diana Penty in Nedret Taciroglu (2019): Diana Penty served some old Hollywood glamour on the Cannes red carpet for her debut last year at the film festival. She was unmissable with that heavy sequined layered ball gown with feather detailing on it. Perfect debut, I must say.

9. Kangana Ranaut in NEDO by Nedret Taciroglu (2018): Kangana Ranaut debuted at Cannes in 2018 and it was a remarkable one in all ways. She ditched the gowns and dresses to wear a body hugging silver beaded jumpsuit giving the 70's Disco a tribute on the carpet. We don't know whether it is the camera flashes or Kangana, shining on the carpet.

10. Deepika Padukone in Peter Dundas (2019): Deepika Padukone proved that she is a style icon and a trendsetter when she stepped out wearing a black and white Peter Dundas gown with a huge bow detail in the front and the most dramatic beauty look we could expect. Worth the hype!

11. Sonam Kapoor Ahuja in Ralph and Russo Haute Couture (2018): Ralph and Russo, the designer duo is a dear friend of the fashion icon Sonam Kapoor Ahuja and hence, when she flew to Cannes directly after her wedding, she wore a lehanga specially designed by the duo for the new bride. Her braid to her mehendi, everything made for a perfect fashion moment for the Indian bride.

12. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in Armani Prive (2011): By this year, Aishwarya was already the darling of the fashion police at Cannes. In 2011, she served one of my favorite looks by her of all time in a black geometric off-shoulder Armani Prive gown with smokey eyes. We can have a separate list altogether for Aishwarya and her stunning looks. Such a queen.
