Red carpets are a place for going all out on the glamour quotient. Usually the red carpet looks in the west comprise of celebrities wearing exquisite gowns and some gorgeous dresses. In India, we have something that we can be really proud of- sarees. Sarees are a combination of sultry silhouette and are epitome of elegance at the same time. The perfect combination of both the worlds, Sarees have been worn by many of our divas on a red carpet. We pick our favourites from all the potential looks to have landed in the 'best-dressed' lists of the fashion gurus. Here are the 9 best saree looks worn on a red carpet:

1) Kareena Kapoor Khan at Filmfare in Manish Malhotra:

Kareena Kapoor Khan attended Filmfare Awards 2012 wearing a nude sheer saree by Manish Malhotra covered with swarovski crystals. She paired this beautiful saree with a subtle long sleeve blouse & no jewellery. We all got so used to of watching celebrities wearing huge gowns but here Kareena Kapoor Khan totally turned heads by wearing this beautiful Manish Malhotra saree. The look was totally mind-blowing, be it the colour or be it the simplicity everything was on point.

2) Anushka Sharma at NBT Utsav Awards in Sabyasachi:

When it comes to traditional outfits, Anushka Sharma has always been my favourite. Be it saree or be it heavy lehengas Anushka Sharma has always pulled off every look so flawlessly. Here is the amazing look of Anushka Sharma wearing a green colour printed saree by designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee during NBT Utsav Awards 2019. She looked as radiant as ever. She accompanied her saree by an absolutely gorgeous pair of statement earrings. A small bindi topped with hair tied in a loose bun further accentuated her look. The best part I loved about her look was she kept her make-up so minimal & let her saree do the talking.

3) Aishwarya Rai Bachchan at Cannes Red Carpet in Sabyasachi:

I just love the idea when Indian celebrities opt for traditional outfits at International Festivals. For say, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan who has always stunned us at Cannes Film Festival, but this time she wore a saree at the Cannes Film Festival in 2013. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan opted for gorgeous embroidered Golden Shimmer Saree by designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee. The saree was perfect for the night as the details on it were intricate and amazing. She chose to keep the make-up minimal, a simple hair-do & small earrings as she kept the saree the center of attraction as it should have been.

4) Deepika Padukone at HT Most Stylish Awards:

Deepika Padukone totally slayed the kanjivaram saree look . The saree from her personal collection, complimented her personality. The simplicity of her saree is the most beautiful part of this look. The golden border on the saree is appropriately broad because of which it is not overpowering the beauty of the pink Kanjivaram. The most impressive part of this look is the hairstyle which let the saree do all the talking. The sleeveless blouse which she is wearing looks young and chic. The choker neck-piece is just perfect modern addition to this traditional look.

5) Deepika Padukone at Cannes in Rohit Bal:

Deepika looked beautiful in this white silk saree with a golden embroidery on it. The red and golden border add the right amount of shine. It is draped in such a way that the border is getting the exact required amount of attention. The hair tied in a bun have a little bounce which gave her the apt amount of elegance required. I just wish she had dropped the watch in one hand and should have just gone for the golden bangle in another, but it does not take away from her beauty. Last but not the least, the ring and the clutch just completed the look beautifully.

6) Vidya Balan at Cannes in Sabyasachi:

Vidya Balan is known for her beautiful saree looks and here again she didn’t disappoint anyone. Vidya opted for a Tussar silk saree which looks beautiful on her. The full sleeve blouse is giving a royal look to the saree. The pallu of the saree is the most beautiful part. The golden tint in the pallu increases as we go along which makes it look ravishing. The maroon colour in the pallu is an ice breaker as it matches with the blouse and brings a necessary contrasting touch in the saree. The dangler earrings just go right with look. Not wearing a neck-piece was a wise decision as the it gave some breathing space to the saree. The hairstyle and the makeup is just simple yet so Indian. Love the simplicity!

7) Priyanka Chopra Jonas at Marrakech Film Festival in Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla:

Priyanka Chopra Jonas is a global style icon and there is no denying that. She served some breathtaking looks while she was on a promotional tour for her Hindi film 'The Sky Is Pink'. While busy with that, she flew down to Marrakech International Film Festival to be awarded for her contribution to Hindi cinema. She chose to wear Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla and turned all heads. The ivory saree with the strapless blouse was the perfect choice for the sexy diva. Her soft makeup and messy bun complimented the look well. A winner for us!

8) Sonam Kapoor at Cannes Red Carpet in Anamika Khanna:

When I was writing about the Best Looks By Indian Celebrities on The Cannes Red Carpet, this look was a strong contender for the list yet it couldn't make the cut. But here I am! This look had to be there in this list. Sonam Kapoor is a style icon and that is a no-brainer. She brought the red carpet glam to India and she served this beautifully Indian look at the Cannes red carpet in 2014. Sonam and Anamika Khanna have served us some brilliant looks in future after this as well but this one marked the beginning of this epic partnership between the two. The tones, the accessories, the panache and the draping, everything made a statement on its own.

9) Kangana Ranaut at Cannes in Sabyasachi:

Kangana Ranaut visited Cannes red carpet for the first time in 2018 and she served some major looks. She reminded us of the retro days with this all black shimmer cocktail saree by Sabyasachi. It was an ode to Sadhana and Audrey Hepburn and broke the internet with her perfect Indian meets western look. Sabyasachi is the master of Indian looks and this one proved that yet again.

Well, Coronavirus has shut down all the major events which were upcoming including award shows and film festivals. All we can hope is to get back to new normal and so we can see our favourite celebrities serving us some major fashion moments to cherish for longer.
