2019’s Spider-Man: Far From Home pulled the curtains on what were an incredible first three phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

There is a precedent for a lot of new characters to make their way into the MCU, and Marvel has a tendency to plan things way in advance.

With things getting a lot more interesting due to the introduction of alternate realities and time-travel, we take a look at five characters that would be wonderful additions to expand the narrative of the MCU.

Matt Murdock (Daredevil)

Although the rights of Daredevil will return to Marvel Studios on October 19, 2020 (due to a clause stating that Marvel Studios can use the character two years after its last episode was released), the beloved character is bound to return to the big screen in either phase 4 or 5.

Spider-Man is on the run after his identity was exposed in front of the New York citizens, and he will need a lawyer to help him. This is where Matt Murdock enters the scene. Matt Murdock is a lawyer at Nelson & Murdock, a law firm, and he can help Peter Parker in Spider-Man 3 (the official title of the movie is yet to be announced).

Netflix has already cancelled season 4 of Daredevil so it makes perfect sense to introduce ‘The Man Without Fear’ on the big screen. He has already established himself as a fan favourite and will no doubt translate that success in the movies or a Disney+ show of his own.

Ghost Rider

Ghost Rider has had as many as five different iterations in the comics, with two of them already making their way in mainstream media – Johnny Blaze portrayed by Nicolas Cage in the live-action movies and Robbie Reyes portrayed by Gabriel Luna is ABC’s Agents of Shield (none of them a part of the MCU).

It is not exactly known as to how and which Ghost Rider will be introduced, although Johnny Blaze seems to be the best candidate due to his immense popularity in the comics.

Ghost Rider is a layered character and Marvel Studios could have a lot of great stories to tell and show us the fearsome ‘Penance Stare’.

Nathaniel Richards (Kang The Conqueror)

Kang is a time-travelling entity. Does time-travelling ring any bells? Yes, Marvel has already explored that in Avengers: Endgame and the Disney+ show Loki is set to present The God of Mischief’s adventures set in different times.

Kang is rumoured to debut in the Loki series, and with the Fantastic Four also coming to MCU in a couple of years, Kang’s addition as a big villain would make perfect sense.

He is also a descendant of Reed Richards (Mr Fantastic).

Franklin Richards

The son of Reed Richards and Sue Storm of the Fantastic Four, Franklin Richards is a ridiculously powerful character in the comics.

He can warp reality, manipulate both energy and matter, and possess a slew of psionic powers as well.

With Fantastic Four set to debut soon (although an official release date is awaited) and Young Avengers reportedly in the works, Franklin Richards would add an extra dimension (pun intended) to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Miguel O’Hara (Spider-Man 2099)

In my recent article, I mentioned that a Spider-Man 2099 Disney+ show was reportedly in the works. Miguel O’Hara is from a utopian future set in 2099, and with all the inter-dimensional and time-travelling escapades that the MCU will get going on, having another Spider-Man would make the fans ecstatic.

Although we might be years away from his debut, Marvel might probably start planting the seeds from as early as phase 4. And if the rumours of a Disney+ show turn out to be true, we might not have to wait for too long.

If Peter Parker remains in the MCU for a considerable amount of time, we might possibly be fortunate enough to witness two Spider-Men grind it out together on the battlefield.
