As crazy as the title sounds, the article will not disappoint if you read it till the end.

Yes, this is one of the most absurd things I could have ever written about. But this is something I want to write about, and this is something I must write about.

Well, I love to cut onions. It gives me a sense of responsibility (a big one) when I am asked by Mumma to help her chop the onions, because, well, duh (it gives her ageing eyes a big relief, eh)! I have grown and seen her shed tears trickling down her cheeks without losing the onion-chopping streak, and at 19 years, I realized that slicing and cutting and knifing down (don’t scratch your heads, that was self-created) the onions is quite a big thing in itself.

So, this article begs just one big question. Well, not one, but the biggest question of them all: Why should one feel proud when it comes to chopping onions?

Okay, before I begin, I want all the nay-sayers to give me one chance to convince that why what I am writing makes at least some sense, if not much. In addition to that, I know that you can soak onions in cold water for 30 minutes to neutralize and mitigate the reason why we cry – Sulphur dioxide. But let’s consider that I am not a fan of that idea, to say the least.

Life, IN MY OPINION, is like chopping an onion. When you chop the onion, there is just an insane amount of Sulphur dioxide invading your eyes, causing a lot of struggle and pain. If the onion is tough and you over-commit and exert a force more than required, you might end up bending the knife (not always, depending on the type of knife too).

Another risk that is associated (with every vegetable though) is that you may cut your own finger accidentally, resulting in bleeding that wouldn’t end if you are not resolute enough. It is just life-threatening (not really).

You might also need to switch off the fan because the Sulphur dioxide keeps propagating to every nook and corner of the house (not a problem if and only when you are alone). This means you can sweat a lot, especially in a season as demanding as the summer. So you see, there’s just so much blood and sweat at stake.

Life is a similar arena in many ways. You strive to make it where you dream to be, but not without struggle or sweat, and even blood in some cases. You gotta sweat it out, do the hard yards, walk the extra mile if the need be. You may also end up with failure, with an opportunity that wasn’t grasped, an opportunity that was lost, which hurts you (similar to how you cut a finger).

If you bleed, or sweat, or cry while chopping an onion, you don’t stop there, do you? You make sure you finish what you’ve started. You never give up. Now I know that all this isn’t THAT big a deal, but at least it’s a deal big enough to draw inspiration and strike a life-changing analogy.

One just needs to head straight to the kitchen, grab an onion, and start slicing it the way he or she wants, because there are just a lot of ways you can chop an onion (akin to how you can do just about anything you desire in your life).

When you are done, you must brave a smile, and feel motivated, because you always have it in you to inspire yourself and conquer your dreams. It’s there in each and every one of us, hidden as a treasure yet to be unearthed. Cutting onions should always make you feel proud because you didn’t stop despite all the hurdles. Well, I think I am going to chop a few onions now. Until next time!
