It is often said that travelling helps you to quench your thirst of finding yourself, and in my opinion, the best way to do that is to travel SOLO! We all at some point in our lives, have fantasized of going on a trip alone with backpacks and stuff! We always wanted to be the Bunny of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and go to beautiful places. Sounds fun right? I mean, who doesn't want to go to places where there are pretty high mountains and music of a river that rings in your ears in a perfect pitch. That is all we want.

Now travelling solo needs a bit of preparation. By preparation, I am also referring to mental preparation that one needs to have while travelling alone. Most of the people think that Solo trip is a boring way to travel, but only those who have traveled know how much fun and adventure it has to promise.

Now the golden rule of travelling is to go to unplanned places. But I think a little homework will help you to ease your trip a bit.

Here are the 5 major things to keep in mind when you are travelling solo!

1. Pack light

If you ask any person who has frequently traveled to places, he/ she would suggest you to carry lighter luggage. Packing light does not mean to miss out essentials but it means to avoid unnecessary things. For example- If you are going out for a 1 week trip, then taking too many clothes with you is not a wise option. So next time you go on a solo trip, try to remove some unwanted stuff from your luggage.

Utna Safar Asaan Rahega

Jab tak Mandir aur Masjid hai

Mushkil mein Insaan Rahega

2. Try learning basic communication in the language which is widely spoken in the area of your destination.

I am not saying to learn the whole language but try to learn phrases which will help you to communicate with the locals. This is very important at the time of emergency. Suppose if you are lost somewhere, at least you can ask for the direction.

3. Stay sober

Now staying sober while travelling is a must. You may want to be on your senses while you are going on solo trip. It is very safe if you are travelling sober. Like I do know people who travel while consuming drugs or alcohol and they are not able to control their mental and physical state. So try to maintain that healthy state of mind while travelling.

4. Stay in touch with your family

Even if you are travelling to a nearby state or far-fetched country, YOU SHOULD ALWAYS UPDATE YOUR LOCATION WITH YOUR FAMILY. It's very necessary for you as well for your loved ones. Even if you are in danger, they know where to find you!

5. Trust your Instincts

Suppose while you are travelling and you met a person and you have a bad feeling about it, then leave that spot immediately. At times not following your gut can lead you to the difficult situation so to avoid these and to be on a safer side, Follow your gut!

These are some points that I follow while going on a solo trip. I think that these points will surely make your trip much easier.

Remember to travel because, its the only way to escape, till then I will leave you with this amazing sher by Javed Akhtar Sahab-

"Hai thodi dur abhi sapno ka nagar apna. Musaafiro abhi baaki hai kuch safar apna"
